Project
The best way to understand what brings citizens of the planet together seems us to be : traveling by train. Therefore, we have planned to go meet people and try to forge a bond with these passengers just for a moment, to look for similarities, or differences, to share a moment with Russian, Kazakh, Uzbek, Azeri, Turk, Greek, Italian, etc people.
From Mongolia to France, from Ulaanbaatar to Nantes through Omsk, Samarkand, Baku, Istanbul, Athen, Budapest, ... we will share a moment, a meal, a discussion, or just silence with these people.
We'll go for a moment together, we'll wait on the same platform, get on the same train, enjoy the same landscape, a sunset, a nightfall, and probably feel the same curiosity about each other.
We will hopefully come back with bag-packs top-full with portraits, life stories, daily adventures and with cultural and human discoveries in mind. This is likely to prove us we have much more in commons than what one expects, regardless of our gender, nationality, personal background, needs and hopes.
Synopsis of the project
Mongolia is a country full of surprise. Living in UB was a daily challenge but what we will remember above all are the cultural discoveries, the people and the countless moments of astonishment. We then felt the need to get home slowly, step by step, to get the chance to realize what we had experienced in the last ten months.
Traveling back home by train allows us to enjoy the way back, and offer us another opportunity to go meet people. Indeed, traveling is not only “getting home”, “going somewhere”, or “visiting a new place”. For us, traveling means meeting people like you and me, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, people living their lives their own way, maybe like us, maybe very differently. Traveling means being confronted to other ideals of life, to other points of view. Traveling might make you feel like a drop in the ocean but in the end, you will still be stronger, enriched by discoveries and wisdom.
